Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp. (FPCC) has announced that it will restart its 700,000 tons-per-year (tpy) No. 1 naphtha cracker this week.

The naphtha cracker was shut in May this year after a fire incident.

The naphtha cracking complex of the FPCC has three crackers with a combined capacity of 2.93 million tpy. While the No. 2 cracker with a capacity of 1.03 million tpy is in operation, the No.3 cracker with a capacity of 1.2 million tpy was closed for a planned maintenance about a month ago.

FPCC does not plan to close operations at No.2 naphtha cracker in 2011.
