Clothing retailer Benetton opens first megastore in India

Italian clothing retailer Benetton has launched a 420 square metre store in Chennai, its first megastore in Southern India.
According to the company, “Its first megastore offers the latest fashion trends clothes and also delivers the international experience to the customers, they would get anywhere else in the world”.
Music Director Yuvan Sankar Raja inaugurated the megastore, which showcased a mix of trend setting styles, ethnic colors, and casuals for adults and children.
Ms Gagan Singh, Managing Director said, “India is a key market for the Benetton group and apart from evolving our product offering to suit the market, Benetton India will continue to build such megastores to provide Indian consumers a global shopping experience.”
She further added, ”Lanson would be Benetton's franchisee in the city.”
The group, which opened some 20 stores across India this year, is planning to add some four to five stores for the South in 2006. Sales in India grew 30 percent this year.
