Arrival of cotton has increased in Punjab province of Pakistan compared to last year, but has dipped in Sindh.

Overall, the arrival of new cotton is 6.93 percent more than that of last season even though the crop has been affected due to pest attacks and flood in Sindh, Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) has said.

As on October 1, 2011, ginners have received a total of 2,798,773 bales of cotton, compared to 2,617,318 bales received during the corresponding period of 2010, according to the data from the 765 operational ginning factories in Punjab and Sindh, newly-elected PCGA Chairman, Amanullah Qureshi said.

In Punjab province, 1,887,120 bales of cotton have arrived, as against the arrival of 1,171,400 bales in 2010, that is, an increase of 61.10 percent. In Sindh, the arrival of cotton has decreased to 911,653 bales compared to last year's arrival of 1,445,918 bales, which is a decline of 36.95 percent.
