In accordance with the budget announcement of 2005-06, the Government of India has introduced a “Health Insurance Scheme for Handloom Weavers” on 9th August, 2005 in place of the earlier Health Package Scheme.
The Scheme is implemented through ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company. Central Government's share of premium will be released to the ICICI Lombard directly for coverage of weavers under the scheme in instalments.
The Rajiv Gandhi Handicrafts Bhawan which has been constructed at Baba Kharak Singh Marg has been made operational from March, 2005. Departmental activities have been commissioned to provide marketing opportunities to the handicrafts artisans & Self Help Groups.
Ministry of Textiles has recast the TCID & APE Schemes into one restructured “Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks” for speeding up the implementation of the Schemes and to actualize the vision of attaining export target of $50 billion by 2010.
The Scheme is based on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and envisages engaging of a professional agency for project execution.
The primary objective of of the SITP is to provide the industry with world-class infrastructure facilities for setting up their textile units. The scheme would facilitate textile units to meet international environmental and social standards.
