Slated as the largest apparel technology tradeshow of the Indian subcontinent, the AME'06, Apparel Machinery Exposition was inaugurated yesterday at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Organised by the The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) the oldest and the most representative Association of the Garment Industry in India, the event is staged and managed by Zak Tradefairs & Exhibitions.
Addressing the opening, Union Minister of Textiles Shankersinh Vaghela said that the technologies to offer solutions to the apparel industry displayed at AME '06 (Apparel Machinery Exposition) will take the Indian apparel industry to global levels in the next few years.
Spread over an area of 20,000 square meters, the AME '06 received excellent response from exhibitors, the moment it was announced.
Speaking to the media persons Premal Udani, President of CMAI said, "Following the dismantling of the textile quota regime, the garment business in India is all set to grow, both for the domestic as well as export market. The three-day exhibition offers a good platform for industry players to grow internationally. Technology will be the driver helping the Indian apparel industry to graduate in its quest for value-addition and productivity and quality.”
A Sakthivel, Chairman Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) speaking form the sidelines said, "The textile industry would like the scheme for additional incentive for specified processing textilemachinery to be extended till April 2007 as a lot of textile processing units are yet to avail the benefits of the scheme.”
