The Minister informed that, in order to gain still wider access for our handicrafts in the global market, an e-commerce facility is proposed to be provided, whereby the artisans, entrepreneurs and exporters can have a very wide market access for their products. Efforts are being undertaken to promote the Brand Image of Indian Handicrafts with a view to further enhance exports.

Shri Vaghela further added that as a step to further boost the confidence level of lending institutions and banks with regard to likely default in repayment of the credit, a new scheme for facilitating Credit Guarantee cover for handicraft artisans has been launched to facilitate over Rs.300 crore of credit to around 1 lakh artisans during 2006.

The India Expo Centre and Mart is expected to be an International hub of business in handicrafts and other synergic products like handloom, silk, jute and carpets etc. Created at a cost of Rs.400 crores, the Centre is patterned on the lines of Trade Marts in Dallas, Atlanta, Las Vegas in US, Shanghai in China and Utrecht in Holland.

The complex of the Centre and Mart has state-of-the-art facilities created with the single purpose of making it preferred destination for international business, exhibitions, trade fairs and business meets in India.

The India Expo Centre and Mart is owned by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) company viz. India Exposition Mart, promoted jointly by Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority and exporters and manufacturers of handicrafts.
