These 10 international fashion design institutes are involved in the project: Royal College of Art (UK), Bunka Fashion College (Japan), Parsons The New School for Design (USA), BIFT Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (China), Facultade Santa Marcelina (Brazil), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (China), Donghua University (China), Hochschule Niederrhein - University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Hochschule Luzern - Design & Kunst (Switzerland) and Polimoda (Italy).

Feel the Yarn is a training project founded in 2010 for students of prestigious international fashion and design schools that aims to develop awareness of the yarns produced by the most skilled Tuscan manufacturers.

The project is divided into two parts. The first phase is a training period in March, in which the young designers and their teachers are introduced to the world of fibres, colours and the creativity of yarn visiting the production centre of Prato to develop extensive knowledge of all the design and production phases of knitwear yarn. During the second phase every student designs and produces three knitwear garments using yarns produced by one of the Tuscan manufacturers involved in the project that are then exhibited during the Pitti Filati event and voted on by a specialist jury and by all visitors.
