Japanese petrochemical major - Sumitomo Chemical Company is currently operating its caprolactam (CPL) plant at 90 percent capacity.

When asked the reason for reducing capacity rates, a Sumitomo official revealed to fibre2fashion that since CPL demand is low and price is down, they have reduced the capacity.

He also informed that there were no immediate plans for a maintenance turnaround at the CPL plant.

Sumitomo operates two CPL lines. Line No-1 has a production capacity of 95,000 tons / year and line No-2 has a capacity of 85,000 tons / year.

On asked to comment about current CPL price trends he said, “July CPL prices are quoted around US $2200-2300/ton, down from around $2400-2430/ton in June”.
