Yarn output slides across the globe in Q3, says ITMF

Global yarn production has witnessed a decline of 1.1 percent during the last quarter ending December against the same period in 2004, stated the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF).

Europe and the US are largely affected by this decline as Europe recorded 8.8 percent drop, North America posted a decline of 4.9 percent and South America witnessed 2.1 percent of fall, stated ITMF.

This decline in yarn production on yearly basis was much smaller at 0.2 percent, while year-on-year Asia recorded a strong 4.2 percent growth in production, South America's production went down by 12 percent, in North America by 7.9 percent and in Europe by 3.8 percent.

On the one hand, global yarn production witnessed a decline, while on the other, yarn inventories were reported to have gone up 3.3 percent during the third quarter of the present FY.

Apart from Europe, where there was a 3.9 percent reduction, inventories, in all the other regions they are stated to have increased during the third quarter, against the same period in 2004.

However, the global yarn inventories were down 6.7 percent, which reflects that there has been constant demand.

There has been reduction in inventories in all the reigons - 10.4 percent in North America, 8.7 percent in South America, 8.5 percent in Europe and 5.5 percent in Asia.

Talking about fabrics, though there was a minor decline of 1.9 percent in global production during third last December quarter, against the same period in 2004, the production is reported to have increased by 1.1 percent.

The highest increase of 5.9 percent was in Asia, followed by 1.5 percent in North America. However, the fabric output was lower by 10.3 percent in South America and 1.3 percent in Europe.
