India's 2006 cotton production is expected to slightly decline as a result of heavy rains in September 2005.

East India Cotton Association (EICA) reported that India's anticipated cotton output is pegged at 24 million bales while in 2005 cotton produced was 24.3 million bales.

Heavy rains in in September and October, just when the crop was matuaring, adversely affected the output in the major cities like Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

The officials assured that this fall would not majorly affect the exports.

KF Jhunjhunwala, President, EICA, informed that, yet, by utilizing leftover stocks the exports will double to reach 2.5 million bales this year.

EICA was established as an All India Body, not only to regulate forward transactions in cotton but also to regulate spot deliveries in Mumbai as well as conduct out-station delivery contracts. The Association is also authorised to import cotton.
