Central government has launched special incentives and schemes in north-east region to promote textile-based activities and to empower rural artisans, said T Rollee, Handicrafts NE promotion officer.
Centre has implemented various schemes to act as channel to develop traditional handloom handricraft and sericulture industries in the region, added Rollee.
Centre would increase the amount of financial assistance to 90 percent and strengthen North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation under Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.
Northeastern states have also been asked to come with some fresh schemes for implementation for different handicraft and handloom projects in the region.
Centre also proposes to impart training programmes for artisans and weavers across the region.
