T&G union members put the tools down at the Nylatex textile factory in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, last week.

The company has been manufacturing underwear and sportswear, including the England Euro 2004 football shirts, for 29 years.

Many workers came out of the factory and demonstrated their protest at the gates of factory. Workers were not satisfied with their pay-scale; moreover their salary has not been increased for four years.

John Caple, a loader, complained that workers were given last salary-increase before five years; at present, he receives only £212 a week.

T&G has stopped working overtime and warned the Nylatex authorities that such strikes could occur in future.
