Silk and cocoon production in Jammu & Kashmir needs help from Silk Board of India (SBI), urged Vijay Bakaya, Chief Secretary of the State.
Addressing a function organized by Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute in association with Central Silk Board and State Sericulture Development Department, Bakaya said SBI could provide modern technology for silk production.
Indicating the gap between production and demand of silk in India, Bakaya stressed that production should be increased.
The demand of silk in India is 26,500 metric tons, and the production of silk is 16,500 metric tons only, regretted Bakaya.
However, India has surpassed China in the production of cocoon, he informed.
