Leading European company Beiersdorf AG informed that its Consumer Supply Chain is progressing. Already on February 21, 2006, a transfer of a product group from Hamburg, Germany to Argentona, Spain has been announced. All affected employees are being offered new positions in other areas in Hamburg.
In a further step to optimise the production network, a possible closing of the production sites in Kungsbacka/Sweden with ca. 200 staff and in Almere/Netherlands with ca. 130 staff have been announced today. The product groups would be transferred to other sites in Europe.
In addition, the warehouses in The Netherlands and Belgium with ca. 70 staff in total would be closed, markets would be served from Hamburg, Germany.
The local Beiersdorf companies in these three countries with a total of 400 other staff continue to focus on the marketing and distribution of Beiersdorf products.
Discussions with the responsible local bodies are currently being initiated on these proposals.
As already announced, individual solutions will be sought for each of the affected employees. These can be the transfer inside the respective local company, to a job in another European location, retraining or outplacement opportunities, or compensation according to a social plan.
The savings generated by the realignment of the Supply Chain amount to € 100 million per annum. Beiersdorf will use these funds to invest in the development of new products and in brand-building.
