VDMA textile machinery exports report for 2005

German Engineering Federation's Textile Machinery Association VDMA reported the textile machinery exports in 2005. Despite a slight decrease of exports by 5.3 percent in 2005, Germany has been able to maintain its position as leading supplier of textile machinery and accessories in the world. The annual exports reached 3.4 billion Euro.

The textile world is ever changing. Effects of globalisation not only influence the global economy but also the German export markets which have shifted considerably in recent years.

America has regained importance reaching a market share of 17.2 percent, accounting a turnover of 587 million Euro in 2005 (North America +25.5 percent, South America +53.7 percent).

In contrast, the Asian market is still strong but has shrunk by 7.6 percent. However, with a share of 46 percent and a turnover of 1.6 billion Euro, Asia led the list of German exports in 2005.

The EU export market declined by 7.9 percent whereas other European markets including Turkey dropped by 17.3 percent. The turnover of 1.1 billion Euro in Europe represents a market share of 33.3 percent. India and Pakistan grew strongly China remains the main purchaser of German textile machinery with an overall export volume of 742 million Euro.

Notwithstanding a decrease of exports by 27 percent compared to the previous year, China leads the list of German export markets with a share of nearly 22 percent followed by the United States and Turkey with a share of 9.2 percent respectively 9.0 percent.
