Bombay Dyeing is setting up a new manufacturing facility spread over four-lakh sq ft with an investment of Rs 250 crore in Ranjangaon near Pune.

Aloke Banerjee, Head of Domestic Sales informed that the plant will be producing 1.5 lakh metres of cloth every day and is expected to commence operations by May 2007.

The new facility would incorporate weaving, spinning, processing operations and would be fully automated, focusing presently on bedsheets and towel range.

The plant would cater to domestic as well as export markets for this range, he said.

He said existing facility at Worli in Mumbai that produces a lakh metres of cloth every day would be phased out.

Voluntary retirement scheme has been accepted by all 470 plus employees of Worli plant, Banerjee said.

Banerjee said the famous Bombay Dyeing sarees segment is being phased out as it contributed only two to three per cent to its total turnover.

It would be produced on demand or on a made to order basis.

Furnishing segment is also being phased out as it too was contributing about three to four per cent, he said.

On the occasion of inauguration of the new look Bombay Dyeing Showroom, Banerjee said the company plans to open about 40 new bed and bath showrooms in the A and B class cities across the country.

The company plans to exhibit their bed and bath segment in Shoppers Stop and Lifestyle stores.
