Haitian is marketing MerinoActive with either 35 per cent or 65 per cent Australian Merino wool content, using 21-22 micron wool.
Mr Qiming said that ultimately he could see up to 10 per cent of Haitian's products incorporating Australian Merino wool.
He said that initially MerinoActive would be targeted at the outdoor clothing market, with opportunities also in accessories, linings and bedding for the hospitality sector.
AWI is now working with Haitian to develop a new wool blend fabric with a new synthetic fibre PTT.
“Haitian is very happy to have had an opportunity to work with AWI – we are always looking for opportunities to increase our market and develop new technology. We hope to have an opportunity to work with AWI on many projects in the future,” Wang said.
