ICAC delegation meets Ambassador Rosario over membership

International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) delegation met Philippines Ambassador Albert Del Rosario to press for renewal of ICAC membership that it has applied for withdrawal in October 2005.
Membership will terminate on June 30, 2006.
Philippines cotton industry has been growing impressively and has the potential to provide 25,000 jobs and earn revenues worth $25 million for the country each year.
Integrated pest management, Bt cotton from China and better input delivery to small holders provides adequate platform to improve yield and profitability, sources said.
Philippines continues to get technology transfers, access to Secretariat publications, support for cotton research through its ICAC membership.
It was also noted that the country's private sector and the Government agencies strongly favor continuation of the ICAC membership.
