Industrial producer prices up by 5.4%

Eurostat has announced the euro-zone1 industrial producer price index2 rose by 0.5 percent in February 2006 compared with the previous month. In February 2006, EU25 prices increased by 0.4 percent. In January 20063 prices gained 1.2 percent in the euro-zone and by 1.0 percent in the EU25.

In February 2006 compared to February 2005, industrial producer prices rose by 5.4 percent in the euro-zone and by 7.0 percent in the EU25.

These figures come from Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities.

Monthly changes
In February 2006, compared to the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector increased by 0.3 percent in both the euro-zone and the EU25. Prices in the energy sector rose by 1.0 percent and 0.8 percent respectively.

Intermediate goods gained 0.6 percent in the euro-zone and 0.5 percent in the EU25. In both zones, durable consumer goods increased by 0.2 percent, non-durable consumer goods by 0.1 percent, and prices in capital goods remained unchanged.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in Denmark (+2.0 percent), Slovakia (+1.4 percent) and Spain and Finland (both +0.8 percent). The only decrease was recorded in Luxembourg (-3.8 percent), while prices in the United Kingdom remained unchanged.

Annual changes
In February 2006, compared to February 2005, and excluding the energy sector, industrial prices increased by 1.7 percent in both the euro-zone and the EU25. Prices in the energy sector rose by 19.7 percent and 26.1 percent respectively.
