Eurostat announces that in February 2006, compared to February 2005, the volume of retail trade1 grew by 1.0 percent in the euro-zone2 and by 1.8 percent in the EU25. Compared to January 20063, the retail sales index fell by 0.2 percent in the euro-zone but rose by 0.1 percent in the EU25.
Annual changes In February 2006, compared to February 2005, retail trade decreased by 0.5 percent in the euro-zone but increased by 0.7 percent in the EU25. The non food sector rose by 2.2 percent and 2.8 percent respectively.
Among the Member States for which data are available, total retail trade grew in Latvia (+15.1 percent), Estonia (+12.0 percent), Luxembourg (+9.1 percent), Lithuania (+7.9 percent), Sweden (+7.8 percent), Slovakia (+6.8 percent), Poland (+6.7 percent), Denmark (+5.6 percent), Finland (+4.1 percent), Portugal (+2.9 percent), Austria (+2.5 percent), the United Kingdom (+1.9 percent), France (+1.7 percent), Germany (+1.2 percent) and Spain (+0.1 percent). A fall was recorded in Belgium (-5.1 percent).
Monthly changes In February 2006, compared with January 2006, fell by 0.7 percent in the euro-zone and remained stable in the EU25. The non food sector like accesory, cloth, garment increased by 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent respectively.
Among the Member States for which data are available, total retail trade rose in Luxembourg (+3.2 percent), Slovakia (+1.9 percent), Latvia and Poland (both +1.0 percent), Denmark (+0.8 percent),Spain (+0.7 percent), France and the United Kingdom (both +0.4 percent), Sweden (+0.2 percent), Estonia and Lithuania (both +0.1 percent), while falls were recorded in Finland (-1.1 percent), Belgium (-0.7 percent), Germany (-0.6 percent), Portugal (-0.5 percent) and Austria (-0.3 percent).
