Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) named Dr John Keniry as Chairman of the 2006 WoolPoll Panel. Dr Keniry has significant agribusiness experience and was the Chair of the 2000 and 2003 WoolPoll Panels.

Dr Keniry has established an independent WoolPoll Panel consisting of representatives from organisations across industry as well as a representative from the Australian Government and from AWI.

Dr Keniry said he looked forward to working with all of the Panel members to ensure that WoolPoll 2006 is well managed by the industry.

The panel members are:
Robert Pietsch (WoolProducers).
Michael Nicholls (NSW Farmers Association).
Geoff Power (South Australian Farmers Federation).
Geoff Fisken (Victorian Farmers Federation).
Will Roberts (Australian Association of Stud Merino Breeders).
Helen Cathles (Australian Superfine Woolgrowers Association).
Clinton Ayers (Pastoralists and Graziers Association of WA).
Les Targ (AWI).
David Mortimer (Department of Fisheries and Forestry).

The 2006 WoolPoll Panel will hold its first meeting on April 7th in Sydney.

Wool levy funds are invested by AWI in research, development, innovation and marketing aimed at improving the long-term profitability of Australian woolgrowers.

Under the Wool Services Privatisation Act, AWI is required to conduct a poll of woolgrower levy payers (WoolPoll) every three years. The previous WoolPoll was held in November 2003,where 55 percent of eligible voting entitlements were cast.

Woolgrowers who have paid $100 or more in wool sales levy in the three years to 30 June 2006 will be eligible to vote in Wool Poll 2006.

WoolPoll packs will be sent to eligible growers in September and the WoolPoll 2006 voting return date will be 3 November.
