The EU25 trade surplus increased slightly with the USA (+5.7 bn euro in January 2006 compared with +5.1 bn in January 2005) and remained stable with Switzerland (+1.2 bn).
The EU25 trade deficit grew with China (-11.3 bn compared with -8.0 bn), Russia (-6.9 bn compared with -3.6 bn), Norway (-4.1 bn compared with -2.5 bn) and Japan (-2.6 bn compared with -2.4 bn).
Concerning the total trade of Member States, the largest surplus was observed in Germany (+12.2 bn euro in January 2006), followed by Ireland (+2.6 bn), the Netherlands (+2.2 bn) and Sweden (+1.6 bn).
The United Kingdom (-9.6 bn) registered the largest deficit, followed by Spain (-6.5 bn), France (-4.5 bn) and Italy (-4.1 bn).
