South Korean industrial conglomerate Hyosung Corporation has shut its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant for maintenance turnaround.

“The PTA plant was shut for maintenance on April 17, 2014, and the maintenance work is likely to be completed in around two weeks time,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

Since it began production in 1997, Hyosung’s Ulsan-based PTA plant has produced 420,000 tons a year.

Hyosung’s PTA is produced using Mitsui’s production process, and it also utilizes an on-line inspection system and an automated quality control system.

PTA is a major petrochemical product and the key raw material that determines the quality of polyester.
