“The MEG plant was shut for maintenance turnaround on May 3, 2014, and it is expected to be restarted on July 1, 2014,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

The MEG plant located at Kashima in Japan has production capacity of 280,000 mt/year.

This year, Mitsubishi has carried out restructuring of its naphtha cracking facility at Kashima. As part of restructuring, the company has permanently shut the No. 1 cracker, which had a production capacity of 390,000 tons/year on May 3, 2014. The company also shut its No.2 naphtha cracker on May 9 with an aim to increase its ethylene production capacity from 490,000 tons/year to 540,000 tons/year.

“The No.2 naphtha cracker is also expected to be restarted on July 1, 2014. It will have ethylene production capacity of 540,000 mt/year after the turnaround,” the official further said.
