The Kashima-based naphtha cracker of Mitsubishi Chemical is currently operating at unstable run rates.

“The operating rate of the naphtha cracker is currently unstable and gradually the rate is going to improve,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

“The capacity of the naphtha cracker is 539,000 tons/year when its periodic maintenance is not scheduled and 471,000 tons/year in the year when the maintenance is scheduled,” the official further informed.

As part of restructuring, Mitsubishi Chemical permanently shut the No. 1 cracker, which had a production capacity of 390,000 tons/year, earlier this year, and increased the capacity of No. 2 cracker from around 490,000 tons/year to 540,000 tons/year.

The No. 1 cracker was shut on May 3, 2014, and the No. 2 cracker (now the only cracker) was restarted this month post-maintenance.
