Mitsubishi Rayon Co. Ltd., Japan’s largest acrylic fibre manufacturer, is planning to shut its acrylonitrile (ACN) plant for maintenance this year.

“The ACN plant at Otake production centre in Hiroshima is planned to be shut for maintenance from September 9 to October 22, 2014,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

“The Otake ACN plant is currently operating at 85 percent capacity, due to poor domestic demand,” the official further informed.

The Otake plant has an annual capacity to produce 90,000 tons of ACN.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Rayon will raise the operating rate of its other plant located in Mizushima from the current 75 percent to 90 percent. The Mizushima ACN plant has production capacity of 115,000 tons/year.
