Mitsui Chemicals, a Japan-based chemicals company listed on the Nikkei and part of the Mitsui conglomerate, is operating its Chiba-based naphtha cracker at 100 percent operating rates.

“We are operating the naphtha cracker at full capacity,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

When queried about the next maintenance schedule, the official informed, “We are likely to shut the naphtha cracker in July 2015 for around one month for maintenance turnaround.”

The Chiba-based naphtha cracker remained shut for some days last month due to some technical issues.

The cracker has an annual capacity to produce 600,000 tons of ethylene and 331,000 tons of propylene.

Both ethylene and propylene are used as raw materials for producing man-made fibre in the textile industry.
