Water shortages may force Grasim Ind to close plant

Grasim Industries Ltd, flagship company of Aditya Birla Group, informed of the closure of its Nagda (Madhya Pradesh) Plant next week till onset of monsoon due to acute water shortage.
Production at its staple fibre plant will be reduced, the company informed stock exchange.
Company's chemical plant at Nagda is also reported to operate at about 35 percent of its capacity till onset of monsoon, it said.
Grasim Industries is operating its two staple fibre plants at Kharach (Gujarat) & Harihar (Karnataka) at their optimum capacity to meet requirement of viscose staple fibre of its customers, it said.
Impact on profitability of VSF business for first quarter of FY 07 will be marginal due to measures taken by the company, provided arrival of monsoon is on its scheduled time, it added.
