For the fourth consecutive year, Italian textile machinery industry has registered a decline in production activity.

Figures provided by ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, show that turnover over the past year for the sector dropped to 2.5 billion Euro.

On the domestic market, sales amounted to Euro532 million in 2005. Related sectors downstream, in spite of recovery signs triggered over the course of the year, are struggling in their efforts to launch a consistent investment program.

Machinery imports, which over 2005 appeared to progress compared to 2004, closed off the year with a value of 571 million Euro, stable on the previous year.

President of ACIMIT expressed satisfaction for the agreement which will bring the next edition of ITMA Asia to Shanghai in China from 27th to 31st July 2008.

The deal signed by CEMATEX (the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers), of which ACIMIT is a member, with the Chinese counterparts satisfies a requirement felt by both individual manufacturers and national associations alike: the need to rationalize the trade fair calendar for the whole textile machinery industry on a global scale.
