The International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation has called for the release of two Chinese garment workers imprisoned for having organised public protests against the Huamei Garment Company, which went bankrupt leaving six months' wages and benefits unpaid.
The two workers, Kong Jun and Li Xintao, were sentenced in 2005 to two and five years imprisonment respectively, charged with 'disrupting government institutions' and 'disturbing the social order'.
The ITGLWF has called on President Hu Jintao to secure their immediate release.
The International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation is a global union federation bringing together 220 affiliated organisations in 110 countries with a combined membership of 10 million workers.
