Govt imposes anti-dumping duty on Chinese silk imports

To get rid of loss to Indian powerloom industry, Union Government has imposed provisional anti-dumping duty pending final order on all imports of silk fabric from China, said senior official of Central Silk Board (CSB).
Chief Executive Officer of CSB H Bhasker said that "This is a provisional order passed on April 27, 2006, pending final order which will be imposed after a public hearing after 40 days. We are confident the final order will be in favour of the powerloom industry."
Provisional anti-dumping duty imposed on imports of silk fabric weighing 20-100 grams per meter from China considering dumping margin from 57-115 percent differ from weight and variety of fabrics, said Bhasker.
Director General of Antidumping and Allied Duties (Ministry of Commerce) (DGAD) has proposed reference price of $2.09 - $6.15 per meter which suitable to domestic industry and import above the reference price will liable for anti-dumping duty.
Large scale imports of silk fabrics from China adversely affect to the 75,000 powerlooms mostly from Karnataka, Varansi and Surat.
