Attention of the Government has been drawn to reports appearing in certain newspapers on May 25, 2006 that the Textiles Ministry has lowered its projection for textile exports to US$ 40 billion by 2010 from the earlier estimate of US$ 50 billion. The reports have attributed to a press conference held on May 24, 2006 by the Minister for Textiles, Shankersinh Vaghela.

It is clarified that the projection of US$ 40 billion by 2010 is made by the Indian Cotton Mills' Federation in their 'Vision Statement for the Textile Sector' based on the estimates by CRISIL in August 2004.

The Textile exports target set by the Government under National Textile Policy 2000 is US$ 50 billion by 2010 and there is no change in the target set as above.
