CPI expected to rise 1.9% in May 2006

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office, the consumer price index (CPI) for Germany is expected to rise 1.9 percent in May 2006 – based on the results of six Länder –compared with May 2005 (April 2006: +2.0 percent).

Compared with the preceding month, the rate of price change will be +0.2 percent.

The harmonised consumer price index for Germany (HICP), which is calculated for European purposes, will presumably rise 2.1 percent compared with May 2005 (April 2006: +2.3 percent). Compared with the preceding month, the index will be up by 0.2 percent.

The final results for May 2006 will be available about mid-June 2006.
