EU Flower would be an indirect compulsory market-based instrument to hinder the influx of low environment-oriented textile and clothing goods into the EU market in the future.

According to John Carder, environmental manager for the International Centre of the Danish Technological Institute, at present, 113 products carry the EU Flower.

Among the total, 64 companies are classified as textile and garment manufacturers.

Most of these certified products belong to European companies while only one product from a Chinese manufacturer has obtained the label.

After the United States, Thailand's textile and garment product has the second largest export market in the EU.

The export grew by 9 percent during the first two months of the year and the value of the products totaled US $206.5 million for the same period previous year.

According to Thailand's Information and Communication Technology Center, in 2005, Thailand's textile and garment industry earned $1.21 million from exports to the European Union, increasing 1.48 percent from the export value in 2004.
