An International Trade Data Users (ITDU) Conference to commence from June 21 – 22, 2006 at Baruch College, Newman Conference Center 151 East 25th Street, 7th Floor New York, NY.
This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the cargo container that revolutionized worldwide transportation.
Our conference focuses on how world trade has changed in the last fifty years, whether the way we measure trade and economic growth is keeping up with the times, and what is needed. The agenda is packed with speakers you need to hear:
Our keynote speaker, Marc Levinson, will discuss his new book The Box: How the Shipping Container Made the World Smaller and the World Economy Bigger.
Michael Mandel, Chief Economist at Business Week, raises the issue of whether we are understating trade in discussing his recent B-W article Why the Economy is a Lot Stronger Than You Think.
The Bureau of Economic Analysis replies with a discussion on the issues involved in measuring trade and deriving GDP numbers.
Additional topics at this two-day conference include presentations by:
Census Bureau's new Chief of the Foreign Trade Division and his staff on a new data series for air and waterborne cargo by 4-digit “port” code and trade based on zip code.
A panel on China trade shows its trade in a worldwide perspective, provides air and waterborne forecasts, and includes a presentation on the demand model for the Airbus 380 freighter.
