According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office, 237,000 business registrations were recorded in Germany in the first quarter of 2006 (+2.8 percent from the corresponding period of the preceding year).
Over the same period, the number of business deregistrations increased by 6.5 percent to 199,000.
On the whole, 120,000 of those businesses were small enterprises or enterprises run on a part-time basis, which closed down, in the first quarter of 2005. That was an increase of 9.3 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
