For ensuring labour rights and peaceful atmosphere in the factories, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the government, garment owners and leaders of workers.
Subsequent to a final round of discussion with the State Minister for Labour and Employment Aman Ullah Aman at his Ministry the representatives from the government, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and trade union leaders singed MoU.
Labour leaders commented that all their demands except the minimum wage have been fulfilled by the MoU.
The wage board will hopefully submit its report before the end of the present government's tenure, stated government officials.
The ten-point MoU endorsed the wage board formed on May 31 that will declare the minimum wage for workers within three months of its formation.
The RMG owners promised to execute the agreement at the earliest in all the factories.
Aman Ullah stated that the government has set its sincere efforts to protect the interest of all the parties involved in the garment industries.
He expressed that all the parties would implement the MoU.
