ABIT executive director, Fernando Pimentel, says the agreement is living proof that the government, through the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade and ABDI, is aware of the needs for technological improvement of the national productive chain and its workers. For Pimentel, the project “is also proof the apparel and textile sector have a great future”.

For Pimentel, the challenges for the quality certification and standardization project in such a diversified and broad segment as the professional clothing market in the country will be a great opportunity for the sector to evolve technologically and gain scale. “With the agreement, the productive chain will be even more efficient to compete on the global market,” he affirms.

All Brazilian professional clothing manufacturing companies will be benefited, from micro to mid-sized. The states with the highest concentration of companies in this segment are: São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Bahia, Goiás, Santa Catarina, Ceará, Pernambuco, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Federal District, Pará and Maranhão.

“I hope these measures help strengthen the apparel and textile sector,” added Teixeira.
