Circular knitting machinery shipments take off

With 82,900 long-staple spindles China remained the primary destination (-15 percent), followed by Turkey with 42,300 (+148 percent) and Italy with 14,000 (+245 percent). The overall decline of investments in open-end rotors reached 10 percent in 2005, totalling 374,000 positions, which was still above the level of 2003 with 346,000 positions.

China alone absorbed 246,000 open-end rotors in 2005, reaching a market share of 66 percent, while those of Brazil with 22,000, India with 20,000 or Turkey with 18,000, the next biggest investors in open-end rotors were significantly smaller with 6 percent, 5.5 percent and 5 percent, respectively.

Texturing Machinery

Shipments of single heater drawtexturing spindles (for polyamid filament) dropped to 6,900 in 2005 (-48 percent). China and Turkey were the main investors in single heater spindles with market shares of 50 percent and 15 percent, respectively.

After record years in 2003 and 2004 with 217,000 and 393,000 respectively, global shipments of double heater drawtexturing spindles (for polyester filament) fell by 21 percent in 2005 to 308,000 spindles. The main destination was once more China which alone absorbed 260,000 spindles or 84 percent of global shipment,followed by India and Hong-Kong with 13,700 (5 percent) and 7,700 (3 percent) spindles, respectively.

Weaving Machinery

In 2005, the weaving machinery market contracted somewhat after relatively strong years in 2003 and 2004. Global shipments of shuttle-less looms decreased by 16 percent to 53,500 units. 46,900 or 88 percent of all shuttle-less looms went to Asia.
