Long-standing dispute between Monsanto and Andhra Pradesh (AP) Government is still going on as AP has filed an application against Mahyco Monsanto Biotech Ltd (MMBL), Indian subsidiary of US-biotech giant Monsanto for not obeying rules and regulations of Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) to cut prices of Bt cotton seeds.

AP wants MMBL to sell Bt cotton seeds at prices on par with China.

MMBL has not been following directives of Commission and is liable for contempt of the court, the State Government stated in its petition filed in MRTPC.

Government also requested the Commission to ensure that seed company observes directives set by Commission.

However, MMBL has claimed that it has complied with MRTPC directive and reduced price of its 450 gm Bt cotton seed packet to Rs880 from Rs900.
