Professor Sumitr Pitiphat is a former director of the Thai Khai Institute and a trained anthropologist. He has conducted extensive research on the Tai peoples, traveling throughout northeast Laos, northern Vietnam, and southwest China to document their cultures.
Professor Pitiphat was a consultant on the exhibit "Ritual Tai Textiles" held at the Jim Thompson Center for Textiles and the Arts last year. In this talk he will discuss the dress of the Tai ethnic groups living in northwest Vietnam.
