FOLLOWING the judging of the graphic design category in the 2006 Colour in Design competition, the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) has announced the names of the four finalists.

Open to undergraduates from across the world, the graphics category saw almost double the number of entries received than for last year’s competition.

With entries invited for the topics of brand recognition and awareness, point of sale, website design and product packaging, it was the latter that received the most number of submissions.

The work of the four finalists selected concentrated on a variety of product packaging, including a range of flower seed packets and themed boxes for lingerie. The finalists in the undergraduate graphics category are:

Alexandra Tibbenham (University of Manchester, UK)
Danielle Morgan (University of Manchester, UK)
Natalie Ashcroft (University of Manchester, UK)
Sydney Nakashima (Louisiana State University, USA)

The work of all the finalists from both the graphics and the fashion/textile categories are now on display in the exhibition space at the SDC Colour Museum.

The winners of the 2006 SDC Colour in Design competition will be announced at a glittering awards dinner, sponsored by VeriVide, on 13 October 2006 following the Society’s Colour Conference in Belfast.

The Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) is the only international professional society specialising in colour in all its manifestations.

It was founded in 1884 in Bradford, UK, and was granted a Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1963. The SDC is a registered charity and its aims and objectives are 'to advance the science of colour' in the broadest sense.
