According to the Federal Statistical Office, at the end of April 2006, 5.9 million persons were employed in the establishments of enterprises with 20 employees and more in the field of manufacturing, mining and quarrying in Germany.
The number of persons employed was thus down by 60,500 or 1.0 percent from the corresponding month of the preceding year.
The total turnover (excluding value-added tax) amounted to EUR 121.9 billion; this was a decrease of 2.0 percent compared with April 2005. The turnover abroad contained in this figure rose 1.5 percent to EUR 50.8 billion.
