The Annual Report 2005 depicts the activities of the Bremen Cotton Exchange and the Fibre Institute, as well as an analysis of the global cotton situation. World production, consumption and trade are on focus of the current report.
President Trede reported on the activities of the Exchange at home and abroad as well as the technical and quality arbitration. In his presentation, he also referred to the world cotton situation 2005 and the future development of world cotton markets, as well as to the situation of the cotton industry in Europe.
The world wide cotton production is dominated by five big countries which account for 74 percent percent of the global production volume: China Mainland, United States, India, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Brazil was surpassed by Uzbekistan in 2005/06 and reached the 6th range.
The biggest consumers were China Mainland, India, Pakistan, Turkey and the United States with 72 percent of the processed volume. The concentration of consumption in developing countries is a remaining tendency. The developing countries reached a share of 88 percent of the global consumption in 2004/05.
Indian Visitors in Bremen: On 05 July, 2006 a group of students from the Symbiosis Institute of International Business, Pune, India, visited the Bremen Cotton Exchange within the program of the „Summer School of International Economics and Logistics 2006”. These informative meetings with students from India are traditionally part of a program which is annually organised by the Hochschule Bremen.
Bremen Cotton Exchange (Bremer Baumwollboerse) was founded in 1872 and was created to maintain and to promote the interests of all those connected with the international cotton trade. Today the membership of the Bremen Cotton Exchange consists of 201 members residing in Germany, Europe and overseas.
