Union Cabinet approves amendments in CSB Bill, 2005

The Union Cabinet gave its approval for moving amendments in the Central Silk Board (Amendment) Bill, 2005 with such modifications of drafting and consequential nature. The Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on August 30, 2005.
The decision of the Cabinet will result in
i) Production of seeds of authorized races only
ii) Control on unauthorized production and trade.
iii) Control and prevention of entry of untried and untested hybrids from other countries likely to be carrying disease and other unknown risks.
iv) Protection of the farmers' interest against sudden crop losses in low productivity due to unidentified and un-guaranteed results and possible diseases.
