Textiles, chemicals, machinery show manufacturing growth in April 2005

Manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products rose by 3.9% and 4.7% respectively.

Machinery and equipment gained 2.0% in the euro-zone and 4.4% in the EU25.

Textiles and textile products decreased by 5.3% and 4.8% respectively

In April 2005, and among the Member States for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in twelve Member States and fell in three.

The highest rises were recorded in Hungary (+57.1%), Latvia (+24.2%), Estonia (+17.3%) and Slovakia (+15.7%). Decreases were registered in France (-3.6%), Belgium and Italy (both -0.1%).

Euro-zone: Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Finland.

The new orders index measures the value of future deliveries of products and services (which are directly linked to these products) to be provided by a producer to a third party on the domestic and non-domestic market.

The total manufacturing aggregate includes only those NACE levels required by the STS Regulation to be supplied by the Member States (NACE 17, 18, 21, 24, 27-35) and is referred to as “total manufacturing working on orders”.

The euro-zone, EU25 and EU15 aggregates do not include Member States for which no data is available. These aggregates are only calculated if the Member States included account for 60% or more of the total weight of the euro-zone, EU25 or EU15.mormore of the total weight of the euro-zone, EU25 or EU15.
