Poor demand during works holidays

During the week under report, almost no noticeable demand was reported by the local spinning industry. Most of the mills are on works holidays and occasional enquiries reaching the merchants served mainly for information purposes.

Compared over the week, the cotton quotations in New York and of the Cotlook A Index tended lightly weaker. The offering prices for cotton on hand remained firm and in general mill buyers seem to await the next crop estimate before making new engagements.

In the Upland range, smaller quantities in Central Asian sorts and West African types for prompt, the 3rd and 4th quarter were traded.

In the LS range, turnovers were registered in Egyptian GIZA 86 for prompt / 3rd quarter.
