Carpet exports to different countries have reduced due to lack of foresightedness of Government.
Major importers of Indian carpets are countries like the USA, Britain, Germany, Canada, and Argentina, to which carpet exports declined.
Uttar Pradesh tops all carpet exporting states across India and major carpet manufacturers are in cities like Varanasi, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Agra, Ghosi, Shahjahanpur etc, informed Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC), a Government body working under Union Ministry of Textiles.
Bhadohi and Mirzapur manufacture highest number of carpets with unique look and unmatched style representing tradition and culture, All-India Carpet Manufactures' Association Haji Shaukat Ali Ansari stated.
Exports of woolen, silk and synthetic carpets declined 14 percent to Rs2223.20 crore in 2004-05 from Rs2590.26 crore in 2002-03, informed Carpet Export Promotion Council.
