Reliance Industries Ltd, the world's biggest producer of polyester yarns and fibres is going to start three new fibres to target Indian buyers. within 15 months which will be targeting Indian buyers.
The fibres, which will be developed within 15 months by Patalganga-based research centre, will include an anti-bacterial fibre, a fire retardant fibre and the third one having hygroscopic capacity.
Reliance, which had introduced Recron fibre a year ago, has already started commercial trails for these new fibres.
C S Gokhale, President, Corporate Development for Reliance, said that the polyester yarn developed with high hygroscopic properties will provide yarn for the toweling industry which uses either cotton or spunlace yarn under normal circumstances.
Anti-bacterial fibre will be used in large number in inner wear garments, surgical gowns and drapes, operation theatre sheets, bed sheets, towels, diapers and so on.
The fire retardant fibre will be able to hold its fire retardant properties throughout life unlike the conventional yarn, which looses its properties with every wash.
Gokhale further informed that RIL was in talks with the Defence Ministry for supply of fibres for its Married Accommodation Project (MAP) worth Rs18,000 crore. The defence ministry has already started the trials of Reliance fibres as part of Rs90 crore contract.
