Technical textiles permeate our day to day life to an extent that we are generally unaware of and hold huge potential for India given the numerous advantages that we have in this area.

To bring to the fore the important role that Technical Textiles can play in boosting India's economic growth, the Confederation of Indian Industry has organized a two day Technical Textiles Summit titled “A Profitable Approach”.

While inaugurating the Summit, the Minister of State for Textiles, E.V.K.S.Elangovan said, “India has the capability to take advantage of the developments in this field (technical textiles).

With a large textile manufacturing base and technical manpower, India has the potential to become the leading exporter of various technical textile products”.

“With greater investments, focused R&D efforts, and creation of state of the art common testing facilities we can emerge as a leading technical textile manufacturers and exporter”, added the Minister.

Towards this end, Elangovan emphasized the importance of the government agencies encouraging the use of geo-synthetics in controlling floods and geo-textiles in construction of roads. Another aspect that could help the cause is the use of fire retardant fabrics according to the Minister.
